America The Beautiful Silver Coin 5oz
- Description
Although the America the Beautiful (ATB) coin program was modeled after the State Quarters Program, this program features heavier 5 oz 0.999 pure silver coins with substantially larger surface areas, compared to the coins that inspired them.
The United States Mint released the first ATB coin in 2010, and is expected to do so, all the way till 2021. With four minting facilities, the United States Mint boasts an impressive striking volume. The four facilities are in San Francisco, West Point, Philadelphia, and Denver. The first facility in Philadelphia was established in 1792 under the Coinage Act, making the United States Mint one of the first institutions created after throwing off the yoke of British rule.
As all these 2016 America the Beautiful coins are assigned face values of $0.25 (quarter dollars), their obverses feature the familiar image of George Washington. The reverses of these coins make each release under this program unique. It features a famous historical/culturally-significant site, national park, or even a critical historical scene, celebrating the rich heritage of the featured state. These 2016 ATB coins are essential coins for any American coin collections, especially ATB collections. Their substantial 5 troy ounces (each) of pure silver weight also make them excellent investment assets in addition to being collectible coins.
