The Design
It is Jody Clark’s effigy of the former Queen Elizabeth II featured on the obverse design. Her Majesty’s portrait is accompanied by engravings that read “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1 oz 9999 Ag,” and “1 DOLLAR,” referring to the Monarch's name and reign, the coin’s origin, weight, purity, metal content, and face value.
The reverse design, which names the coin, features a Dragon, a Chinese Astrological sign that will lead 2024.
Opposed to the gold and platinum versions, the silver coins feature the Dragon in a frontal depiction, with water cascading from its mouth, twisted body, paws, and the pearl, which means wisdom, around it.
Further engravings are beneath the image. They feature the corresponding Chinese symbol for the creature, “DRAGON 2024,” and a “P125,” which stands for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.
The Year of the Dragon
The Dragon is the fifth zodiac sign in the Chinese Calendar and the only mythical creature. According to Chinese culture, the ascending animal’s traits lead to good fortune and prosperity.
