In 1979, the prestigious Royal Canadian Mint presented the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin as a direct rival to the South African Krugerrand, the sole gold bullion coin accessible to individual investors. Initially, the Gold Maple Leaf was solely offered in a one-ounce size, boasting .999 purity of gold.
From 1982 onward, the RCM not only produced the 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf, but also expanded its offerings to include fractional-weight coins. These included the ¼ oz and 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins. Another significant milestone for this series was the debut of .9999 pure gold content in November 1982.
On the obverse of all 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins you’ll find an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Depending upon year of issue, the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II varies. From 1979’s introduction until 1989, a portrait of the Queen from Arnold Machin dominated the design. That was replaced from 1990 to 2003 by Dora de Pedery-Hunt’s depiction. Today, coins from 2004 onward have Susanna Blunt’s design.
The reverse of 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf coins features the same design since introduction. Sugar maple leaf coins are featured on the reverse, along with engravings of the nation of issue, purity, metal content, and weight.
Each 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf coin in this listing is in BU condition. Coins in BU condition are available with no signs of wear and tear, however you may notice minor flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks resulting from striking the blanks during production.
These 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins are in BU condition as a guarantee, but we cannot guarantee the year of issue you’ll receive.
